Pellet vs. Offset Smokers

These two smoker styles approach heat and smoke management differently.

Pellet smokers

Pellet cookers generally use an automated feed system and electronic temperature controls. They can be convenient when consistent temperature management is a priority.

Offset smokers

Offset smokers use a separate firebox and rely on airflow, fuel management, and the cooker's design to control heat and smoke.

Ease of use

Pellet systems can reduce the amount of manual fire management. Offset cooking typically asks more of the cook, which some BBQ enthusiasts specifically enjoy.

The choice

Compare convenience, hands-on fire management, fuel preference, cooking capacity, and maintenance before deciding.
